Kalyan Jewellers announces appointment of former CAG Vinod Rai as chairman

Kalyan Jewellers India Limited on March 28 announced board approval for the appointment of Vinod Rai, former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), as the Chairman and Independent Non-executive Director on the Board of the Company.

Kalyan Jewellers India Limited on March 28 announced board approval for the appointment of Vinod Rai, former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), as the Chairman and Independent Non-executive Director on the Board of the Company.

The appointment will be subject to obtaining requisite regulatory and shareholders' approvals. TS Kalyanaraman will continue as Managing Director on the Company's board.

Vinod Rai served as India's Comptroller and Auditor General and as Chair of the United Nations Panel of External Auditors. Rai has held a number of posts in the Indian government and state governments, and has played a key role in a number of reforms in India, including as Chairman of the Banks Board Bureau, a body established by the Indian government to reform public banking.

In acknowledgment of his services to the country, Rai received the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian award. He holds master's degrees in both economics and public administration from the University of Delhi's Delhi School of Economics and Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government respectively.

As Chairman, Vinod Rai's appointment would make him the 8th non-executive director on the Board, joining Salil Nair (Former CEO, Shoppers Stop), Mr. Anil Nair (Former CEO, L&K Saatchi & Saatchi India), Mrs. Kishori Udeshi (Former Deputy Governor of the RBI), Mr. Anish Saraf (MD, Warburg Pincus India Private Limited), Mr. T.S. Anantharaman (Former Chairman, Catholic Syrian Bank), Mr. Mahalingam Ramaswamy (Former MD, State Bank of Travancore) and Mr. Agnihotra Dakshina Murty Chavali (Former ED of Indian Overseas Bank).
